A holistic family-centred approach is important to Cheshire financial advisers and Crewe Alex FC sponsor, The Andrew Connolly Practice.

Just like the many generations of families the prestigious company advises, the highly regarded Sandbach firm is a bit of a family affair.

Two generations of the Connolly family work in the business and the company hasn't ruled out including a third generation.

Set up by senior partner, Andrew Connolly, the business employs his two sons, Liam and Ryan as advisers.

And Andrew's wife Sue, Liam and Ryan's mum, is also still involved in the practice which is 'inter-generational'.

Ryan joined the Practice in December 2016 having graduated from the St. James's Place Academy in Manchester and Liam joined the Practice in April 2017 having completed the prestigious St. James's Place Academy programme.

Andrew believes strongly that clients are best served by a team which can offer specialist advice in all areas of wealth management.

He joined St. James's Place Wealth Management as an Associate Partner in May 1995, qualifying as Partner in 1999 and was appointed Senior Partner in 2004.

"We look to help our clients and their families use their collective wealth to support each other during their lifetimes," said Andrew.

"We believe this innovative concept of inter-generational wealth management allows us to offer the perfect solutions to meet the modern family's needs."

Several of the company's current clients are now second and third generations of the same family and it's this family-orientated approach which the Andrew Connolly Practice prides itself on.

"We're driven by morals and values and genuinely care about our clients," says Liam.

Liam Connolly often presents the 'Man of the Match' award at Crewe Alex Fc and holds weekly financial 'pop up' sessions at the club's Reaseheath training ground on Thursdays (The Andrew Connolly Practice).

"It's important for the whole family to be involved and we can have members living far away join the meeting on Zoom," said Liam.

"It's about intergenerational planning and forming some kind of legacy trust with the ability to access funds in the case of an emergency.

"How often does a family sit down and talk about the future, thinking about what they want to achieve? It's so important to make time for this, forming a financial strategy.

"We look at working out the best way forward with everyone reading off the same page."

"Many of our clients were babies when we started working with the families," says Liam. "Intergenerational planning is important, passing on wealth to the next generation."

The Andrew Connolly Practice is a sponsor of Crewe Alex Football Club and there are some analogies between running a successful football team and managing finances well.

The Sandbach family business twas featured in Crewe Alex monthly magazine 'Inside Crewe' (The Andrew Connolly Practice).

For just like a successful football team, good financial planning is about having the right things in place at the right time, using a tactical approach.

"It's about looking at the bigger picture and ensuring you're using the right tactics for what you want to achieve," says Liam.

"It's very easy to look at the short-term but it's important to look at long-term planning and not to panic."

Liam often presents the 'Man of the Match' award and holds weekly financial 'pop up' sessions at the club's Reaseheath training ground on Thursdays.

But off the pitch, Liam and the rest of the practice is involved in many non-football related work, which can start with a 'board room' meeting with a family.

"2022 was a very tough year for the financial markets," says Liam, adding "but we are seeing signs of recovery and some positive growth.

"The invasion of Ukraine and Liz Truss's mini budget were two key moments. We have had two years of extreme movement and the economy in China is affecting us a bit.

"We're still in a volatile market which is why it's important to look at long-term planning. It's about keeping your eyes on the bigger picture."
