19th-century Crewe 'family' pub reopens under new ownership

A traditional Crewe pub, dating back to 1867, has reopened in Crewe - with its experienced new owner planning to make the Victorian venue "warm and inviting" for families and locals.
The Delamere Arms, known as 'The Blazer,' Underwood Lane, officially reopened its doors on Monday 28 July, under the ownership of Peter Forester, from Cardiff.
According to local historian, Peter Ollerhead, The Delamere Arms arose out of a grocer's shop, owned by a Richard and Elizabath Goulden, orginally from Davenham, with their surname naming a nearby street.
Peter told Nub News: "I saw this pub advertised on Facebook by Host Pub Management Limited, which had been closed for around seven to eight months, and immediately took it on.
"I took over The Blazer this July in a very quick turnaround and cleaned this lovely place up. We are currently going from strength-to-strength, with a steady flow of people returning to the pub.

"I am originally from Cardiff and have run four other pubs and two nightclubs, specialising in venues that are broken or have been closed.
"In my opinion, I have a brilliant track record of turning places around and integrating them within the community.
"As soon as I walked through the doors I fell for this pub, there is a lot of potential here. I am making this place warm and inviting for families and locals."
The Delamere Arms plans to host daily events at the venue, including darts, quizzes, live entertainment, bingo and board games.
It is hoped the Crewe St Barnabas venue will have live sports subscriptions installed by Friday 15 August, in time for the 2025/26 Premier League season.
Peter said: "The Blazer operates under a two-room system, with a traditional bar and an old-school lounge.

"Being over 100 years old, this place is in very good condition. I aim to make the lounge a calm area for family and friends with foul language kept to a bare minimum.
"The bar area allows people to let their hair down more, enjoy our fresh pints and have a game of pool.
"We offer a wide range of drinks, from stouts to ale, as well as two ciders and three lagars.
"Sky Sports and TNT Sports will be installed within the venue, with the hope they are completed for the start of the season.
"As well as football, The Delamere Arms will be screening live darts, racing and more. The only thing I don't tend to host is boxing.
"In terms of events, we are quite big on families and plan to host board game Mondays with an evening bingo, darts on Tuesdays, free pool on Wednesdays and a pub quiz on Thursdays.

"Fridays will be the live entertainment days, varying week-by-week, including live acts (once a month), DJs and karaoke."
The Delamere Arms will be attaching itself to a lead brewer by end of the year, with a whole new dispense system installed.
Peter added: "The investment will mean the pub will have new taps, lines, cooling equipment, fridges and products, as well as a revamped cellar.
"I love a two-operation pub and the layout in here is great, with customers being able to get served at both sides.
"I can confirm we won't serve food, but are happy for customers of The Pioneer Chippy to come in here when purchasing a drink.
"The chippy has already increased its opening hours since we reopened. Small businesses need to support each other and I would like to work with them.

"The Blazer is a good old-fashioned, friendly boozer. People who come here enter as a stranger and leave as a friend. That is what I want every rule-abiding person who walks through the door to feel.
"I am quite useless with remembering names, but can often remember people for what drinks they order. I look forward to welcoming the people of Crewe and visitors to this venue.
The Delamere Arms is open 12pm to 11.30pm, seven days a week.
