Crewe Alex FC have completed the signing of a talented Championship midfielder, becoming the club's second addition of the January transfer window.

Josh Austerfield joined The Alex on Thursday 18 January, in a loan deal from Huddersfield Town until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old central midfielder, who is contracted with Huddersfield until 2026, made his first professional start for The Terriers against Plymouth Argyle in 2021.

In January 2022, Austerfield joined League Two side, Harrogate Town, on loan for the remainder of the season, making nine appearances.

Josh Austerfield has become Lee Bell's second January transfer window signing (Crewe Alex).

After impressing with Harrogate, Austerfield returned to the club in 2022/23, making a further 17 appearances with two assists.

In the 2023 January window, Huddersfield recalled Austerfield so he could join Morecambe in League one for the remainder of the season.

Austerfield made 14 appearances for The Shrimps and returned to Huddersfield in summer 2023.

The 5ft 10 midfielder has made three Championship appearances this season, making his league debut in a 4-0 defeat to Norwich City.

Austerfield registered an assist when representing the club in a 3-2 EFL Cup round one defeat to Middlesborough last August.

Josh Austerfield will be in contention for Crewe Alex's trip to A.F.C Barrow on Saturday 20 January (Ryan Parker).

The Leeds-player will wear the number 25 shirt for Crewe and will be in contention for the trip to A.F.C Barrow on Saturday 20 January,

Crewe Alex assistant manager, Ryan Dicker, told the club's website: "Josh is a talented boy and he has an excellent profile.

"He gets around the pitch really well, he's technically very good and he will fit in with our style of play.

"He has had two good loan spells before and he has also played in The Championship.

"We think he will help and add to the qualities we already have in the building.

"He ticks a lot of boxes and I don't think it will take him long to fit in.

"A good player is a good player and we believe he will adapt quickly."
