Crewe Alex FC have completed the signing of a promising Championship midfielder, becoming the club's first addition of the January transfer window.

Lewis Leigh officially joined Crewe from Preston North End on Monday 8 January, signing on loan until the end of the season.

The 20-year-old, who likes to play centrally, spent three months on loan at National League side Bromley this term.

Lewis Leigh plays in front of the defence, pulling the strings with his long-range passing and relentless tackling (X).

Leigh made 14 appearances for the Greater London club, currently placed second in England's fifth tier.

Highly regarded by Preston fans, Leigh is known to be a strong competitor and a skilled passer.

Originally from Liverpool academy, Leigh made his professional debut for Preston in a 4–1 EFL Cup win over Huddersfield Town in August 2022.

On 29 April, 2023, Leigh made his Championship debut against Sheffield United, coming on as a late substitute.

Crewe Alex host Swindon Town at Mornflake Stadium on Saturday 13 January at 3pm (Ryan Parker).

Leigh will wear the number 14 shirt during his time at Mornflake Stadium.

A Crewe Alex statement read: "Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to welcome Lewis and wish him all the very best for the rest of the season."
