How did Crewe celebrate the Platinum Jubilee? See the photo gallery

Crewe celebrated the extended Platinum Jubilee bank holiday weekend with a wide variety of events taking place across the town - and its surrounding villages.

From Thursday (June 2) to Sunday (June 5), there were a large number of Platinum Jubilee events across the town.

This began on June, with two beacon lighting ceremonies. The first was held at Hopes and Beams, Broad Street, Crewe.

The Crewe flame was lit by Mayor of Crewe, Nan Walton. Over 150 local residents attended the event.

Another was held on the playing fields of Shavington Primary School at 9:45pm.

On Friday (June 3), Queens Park in Crewe hosted a huge Platinum Jubilee celebration event, where thousands attended and took part in activities.

Included within the 60 stalls of attractions, was a climbing wall, orb balls, live music and live entertainment - such as The Wheel of Death stunt act.

Crewe Nub News also visited Crewe town centre to see the streets well decorated and filled with Platinum Jubilee bunting and flags.

This could be seen across Victoria Street, Market Street, Hill Street and Heath Street.

On the outskirts of Crewe, a scarecrow trail took place in the villages of Haslington and Winterley from the Thursday to Sunday.

Local residents and businesses produced dozens of scarecrows produced for the public to enjoy.

There were also 40 registered street parties in Crewe across the weekend. A large number of these took place on Saturday and Sunday (June 4 and 5).

This included the Sherborne Estate jubilee party - arranged by Crewe town councillor Joe Cosby.

Residents of Sedgemere Avenue, Leighton, all came together on Saturday (June 4) to celebrate.

Many of them decorated their homes with flags, bunting, balloons and posters.

A large group gathered with deck chairs on the street outside a property, playing music and games and enjoyed food and drinks.

Crewe Market Hall celebrated the Platinum Jubilee with live entertainment all the way from Thursday to Sunday.

There was the weekly Big Cat quiz, Amy Winehouse, Adele and Spice Girls tribute acts, a 90s Ibiza and dance classics act, Laura Mac and the Sax, as well as a Crewe does a last night at the proms act.

The Sunday event had a range of orchestra, choirs and classical music for visitors to enjoy.

From the Friday to Sunday, owner of Mexicano De Jimmy, James Scott, decorated his stall with Jubilee flags as well as baking and selling around 100 Platinum Jubilee cakes for charity.

Mr Scott considered giving away the cakes for free to chose to raise money for Crewe Market Hall sponsor, Autism Inclusive.

Willaston residents celebrated a huge Garden party on the Saturday - attracting more than 2500 people from across Crewe, Nantwich and further afield.

The village also held a launch night, Thanksgiving Service, street parties and indoor picnic events.
