Local village attracts more than 2500 for huge Platinum Jubilee Garden Party
Willaston village celebrated the Platinum Jubilee across the bank holiday weekend with three days of events - attracting thousands from Crewe and Nantwich.
Events in Willaston ran everyday from Thursday (June 2) to Sunday (June 5).
This began with a Platinum Jubilee launch event, followed with a Thanksgiving Service for the Queen, a Jubilee Garden Party - ending with street parties and picnics.
Willaston Parish Councillor and vice-chairman of the Queen's Platinum Jubilee committee, Emma Angier, helped to organise the weekend of events in the village.
Cllr Angier told Nub News: "We were very pleased that our planning over the last ten months resulted in successful events over the Jubilee weekend in Willaston.
"Thursday evening's launch event on Mike Heywood Green had a relaxed community feel with about 150 villagers joining together for refreshments before the raising of a Jubilee flag.
"We had installed a flagpole as a lasting memory to commemorate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. Eight-year-old local boy, Oliver Lawton raised our flag at 9:45pm.
"Oliver had won our design competition for the cover of our Souvenir Programme which was delivered to all Willaston households."
The Platinum Jubilee celebration launch started at 9pm.
Local residents gathered as a community to watch the Platinum Jubilee flag raised on to the villages' new flag pole.
Cllr Angier said: "On Friday morning (June 3), approximately 50 people joined together for a short service officiated by Rev Mike Turnbull from St Luke's Church.
"He was assisted by Rev Sarah Butcher from St John's, which took place on Maurice's Maze at Victoria Mill Drive at 10:30am."
The short service led by St Mary's and St Luke's Church, gave thanks to Queen Elizabeth II on the occasion of her Platinum Jubilee.
This was followed by the biggest village event - The Willaston Jubilee Garden Party.
Cllr Angier added: "Our next event, the Jubilee Garden Party on Saturday (June 4), held on Lettie Spencer Playing Field, was a wonderful success.
"We estimated that at least 2500 joined us throughout the day."
As well as those from Willaston, residents from Nantwich, Wistaston, Crewe & surrounding areas joined in with the village celebrations.
There was live entertainment, a jubilee market, food and drink stalls, a dog show, bouncy castles, face painting and a children's sports competition.
The Platinum Jubilee committee vice-chairman added: "The playing field came to life with a performance stage & licensed bar at one end, a food court in the middle next to the playground and an arena, Jubilee Market & children's area at the other.
"We have received many complimentary messages about the events, with many asking for the Garden Party to be repeated next year."
On Sunday (June 5), Willaston Social Club held an indoor Jubilee picnic due to the poor weather.
Local residents brought their own picnics to the free event which kicked off at 2pm. Those that attended enjoyed live entertainment from Paul Larcombe
Villagers were also encouraged to organise their own street parties.
Willaston Resident Nic Cooper organised a street party for her neighbours on Victoria Mill Drive - taking place at Maurice's Maze in damp weather conditions.
