CREWE features in a series of videos aimed at promoting the High Street over the festive season.

The eleven videos have been produced by Cheshire East Council and include footage illustrating the retail offer in towns in the borough, including Nantwich, Sandbach and Macclesfield.

They are part of the council's 'Say hi to the High Street' campaign aimed at encouraging Christmas shoppers to stay local rather than head for nearby cities such as Stoke-on-Trent, Manchester and Liverpool.

Crewe Market Hall, a huge success since reopening in May, is featured in the Crewe film along with the Lyceum Theatre and installations in the Lumen festive lights display.

Shops in Victoria Street and Queensway are featured, although the demolition work at the former Royal Arcade shopping rows can only be sited in a distant aerial view.

The council says the videos will help promote the towns over the festive period when activities are continuing to be held safely across the borough.

Despite the threat of the new coronavirus variant it wants residents to support businesses by shopping locally and attending events including pantomimes, artisan markets and live music shows.

Cllr Nick Mannion, chair of Cheshire East Council's economy and growth committee, said: "Omicron has created a new challenge for all of us and masks are once more required to be worn when shopping and using all types of public transport.

"But I know that Cheshire East residents will still be determined to support local businesses safely.

"We can all have a happier and healthier Christmas if we shop responsibly, avoiding city crowds by using our local towns, and continue to wear face coverings, which is now a legal requirement in shops and on public transport.

"Shopping local allows the consumer to have more choice and provides a real boost for our local economy. And after what has been a difficult year, it's also a great way to support our borough's communities."

The campaign is funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
