OPINION: Crewe shopping centre improvements 'only been half-done'
An unimpressed Crewe political party leader believes "long-awaited" repairs to Victoria Shopping Centre, have only been "half-done."
Last week (August 18), Brian Silvester, of Putting Crewe First, had a look around the Asda-owned Crewe town centre square following a clean-up of the area.
Following a Nub News article on July 17, workers had removed the tired cobbled humps, replacing them with new paving, also jet washing the square.
Mr Silvester was unhappy with the overall job, pointing out bricks and tiles were still missing from the central wheel, and there was no information plaque for what it is.
On Tuesday 22 August, Mr Silvester gave his opinion on the "sloppy work" to Nub News.
He said: "Long-awaited repairs and improvements to the Victoria Centre Square in Crewe, which #CreweFirst have been calling for, for years, have only been half-done.
"Many bricks and tiles are still missing and some of the repairs that have been done are in tarmac or concrete, which looks awful.
"Three plastic litter bins have been burnt out on the square, so Cheshire East have put in a replacement plastic bin. Where is the sense in that?
"Some downward guttering is held to the wall with brightly coloured tape.
"Such sloppy work would not be tolerated in Knutsford, Wilmslow, or Alderley Edge. It is not good enough for Crewe either.
"Crewe residents are sick of being treated as second class citizens.
"We all pay the same Council tax in Cheshire East and should receive the same level of service.
"Putting Crewe First is calling for all the repairs and improvements to be done pronto.
"Labour run Cheshire East need to ensure the Victoria Centre Square is properly maintained, because they are ultimately responsible.
"And, the Central Wheel needs an information plate on it. Most people don't have a clue why it is there."
