Crewe man with Parkinson's to take part in walk to raise funds against disease
A Crewe man is taking part in Walk for Parkinson's next month, helping Parkinson's UK fund vital research to find better treatments and a cure for the condition.
Tim Robinson, 63, will be walking around Marbury Country Park, Northwich, on Sunday 10 September.
The Crewe man's late mother had Parkinson's, with him being diagnosed with Parkinson's a year ago.
Mr Robinson Nub News: "I will be walking with my partner, Heather Jones, and our two miniature schnauzers, Maisie and Gracie.
"I was diagnosed with Parkinson's just over a year ago and I am doing as much as possible to keep mobile.
"I enjoy walking in the countryside and find it relaxing whilst being good exercise.
"I'm a member of the Crewe and District Parkinson's group and am looking forward to spending time with other members of the group as well as having the opportunity to meet other fundraisers.
"I am walking for Parkinson's to help find better treatments and ultimately a cure, as this would give me and my loved ones hope for the future and a better quality of life."
Mr Robinson is also calling on others to join them in taking part.
Money raised by Walk for Parkinson's will help fund Parkinson's UK's vital work to accelerate breakthroughs in research.
There are two distances on offer in the park and woodlands adjacent to Budworth Mere: a shorter, family friendly 1.7 mile route, which is fully accessible.
There is also a 5.6 mile route for those wanting to take on more of a challenge.
Walkers will warm up together, walk together, and finish together as they start and finish in the event village with the Parkinson's community.
This year there is a new event village and refreshments will be available to purchase from a coffee van.
Regional fundraiser for Cheshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire at Parkinson's UK, Alison Cope, added "Parkinson's is the fastest growing neurological condition in the world.
"In the North West alone there are 6,000 people living with the condition.
"Every hour, two more people in the UK are diagnosed, meaning 1 in 37 people alive today will be diagnosed with Parkinson's in their lifetime.
"There's no cure for Parkinson's. Yet. But if we all come together and take part in Walk for Parkinson's, we can make a difference to the lives of people with Parkinson's.
"We can make breakthroughs. We can find a cure.
"Whatever your age or fitness level, we'd love to see you at Marbury Country Park to Walk for Parkinson's. Take the first step and sign up today."
It costs just £12 to sign up to Walk for Parkinson's (under 18s go free).
All walkers will receive a fundraising pack with tips and advice, sponsorship forms and an exclusive Walk for Parkinson's t-shirt to wear on the day.
