Man launches new shop in Crewe - 15 years after arriving as child refugee

A man has launched his first ever shop in Crewe - 15 years after arriving in England as a child refugee and starting a new life.

Rebin Karim officially opened Mr Blue, West Street on Saturday 18 February - located inside the former West End A.B. Electrics unit.

The new shop is run by Mr Karim who works in the store along with one other member of staff.

"I have been living in Crewe for the past 14 years and I worked on West Street for six years," said Mr Karim.

Mr Blue is named after a popular vape sold in the store. It stocks 13 different flavours of FireRose (18+).

The Crewe store is most popular for its variety of American sweets, crisps and drinks.

It also sells a number of Prime and Super LXR drinks - subject to availability.

Mr Karim told Nub News: "Mr Blue is named after a popular vape. We sell a variety of vapes, USA sweets, crisps and drinks - they are our most popular items.

"We've been doing really well since opening and have received positive feedback from customers.

"They have been really happy with what we sell many have said they have not seen a shop so smart on this street."

Mr Karim arrived in England as a child refugee back in 2008 - aged just 15-years-old.

The shop owner applied for asylum and was fostered by a couple.

Mr Blue sells a number of Prime and Super LXR drinks - subject to availability (Ryan Parker).

Mr Karim said: "I am originally from Iraq and lived in Stoke-on-Trent for a short time before moving to Crewe. I much prefer Crewe to Stoke.

"I came to England as a refugee on the back of a lorry. I crossed eight different countries to get here.

"My life was at risk and I made the choice to come here.

"I applied for asylum, was fostered by a couple and started my life in England. Now I am running my own shop."

Mr Blue, West Street, is named after a popular vape sold in the store (Ryan Parker).

Mr Blue has now set-up a PayPoint system. It accepts both cash and card payments.

The new Crewe convenience store is open 8:30am until 10:00pm seven days per week.
