Cheshire East finds E. coli in water at Crewe town centre unit
Cheshire East Council has confirmed it found E. coli bacteria in a Crewe town centre water tank, following a reported outbreak at a unit on Market Street.
The outbreak was reported by bubble tea and waffle shop yet to open in the town, Bobobo, in July, when setting up the business.
Cheshire East worked in conjunction with United Utilities to tackle the E. coli outbreak, which it claims was resolved in August.
The council told Nub News it has not received any reports or evidence to suggest anyone has been affected by the E. coli.
It also confirmed E. coli has not affected neighbouring businesses Subway and William Hill.
Chair of Cheshire East Council's environment and communities committee, Cllr Mick Warren, said: "The council was notified of an issue that was affecting a business on Market Street in Crewe in July.
"Action was taken at the time in conjunction with United Utilities and the matter was resolved in August.
"The council has not received any reports or evidence to suggest that there have been any illnesses or adverse effects in relation to this.
"At no point did this reported outbreak have any impact whatsoever on Subway or William Hill."
Bobobo has confirmed old water tanks have been demolished with a full new water mains connection set to be installed, taking up to 16 weeks to be completed.
There is currently no running water on the premises. Bobobo is hopeful of finally launching in Crewe before Christmas.
