R&D Workshops Engineer (Electrical)

About the Role:
We are seeking a talented R&D Workshops Engineer (Electrical) to join our Technical Development Team at Bentley Motors. This role involves working within our state-of-the-art R&D Workshop, focusing on the development and updating of our cutting-edge vehicles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collate early technical information and instructions to support R&D vehicle builds and updates.
- Create data for vehicle sign-off criteria, including the analysis of 2D/3D data (e.g., technical drawings, vehicle logs, schematics).
- Generate technical work instructions to support R&D workshop build activities.
- Lead the identification of hardware and software update requirements for development vehicles using VW Group tools.
- Drive the resolution of technical issues related to vehicle builds and updates, with support from feature owners.
- Provide on-site and remote build support for mules, simulators, prototypes, and pre-series vehicle updates at Crewe and external suppliers.
- Manage technical concerns documentation and KPIs.
- Support the sign-off of vehicles to agreed criteria.
- Identify technical and process risks and support the implementation of appropriate countermeasures.
The Function:
The Technical Development team is based within Bentley's new R&D Workshop and is divided into two main areas:
- Prototype Technical Development: Generates and executes the technical methods to build or update R&D vehicles.
- Additive Manufacturing: Develops and maintains a world-class AM facility, accessible to all Bentley colleagues.
Skills & Experience:
The ideal candidate will be a degree-qualified (or equivalent technical experience) Workshop Engineer with a solid understanding of vehicle components and their requirements for both hybrid and traditional powertrains. You will possess excellent communication skills to convey technical information cross-functionally and have competent MS Office skills for data and issue tracking.
- Knowledge and experience of prototype vehicle build and update methods.
- Demonstrated technical competence in both electrical hardware and software.
- Ability to interrogate 2D and 3D technical data (e.g., vehicle logs, technical drawings).
- Experience with VW Group Electrical Engineering tools (e.g., System 42, CP Tool, Update Centre) is preferable.
- Experience with VW Group Diagnostic tools (e.g., ODIS, Idex) is preferable.
- Experience with high voltage vehicles is preferable.
