Weekend fire chaos as charity clothing bin and disused building deliberately set alight
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service had to deal with a high volume of incidents across the Platinum Jubilee weekend - attending three in Crewe on the same day.
On Saturday (June 4), firefighters were called to a charity bin clothing fire, a derelict building fire and a car fire - all in Crewe.
The first reported incident was a car fire on Ernest Street at 12:12pm - one fire engine from Crewe attended the scene.
When the Crewe firefighters arrived, the car was well alight.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets to put out the blaze. Two properties were evacuated as a precaution while the crew tackled the fire.
Then at 2:37pm, firefighters were called to small fire at a disused building on Electricity Street.
Two fire engines from Crewe attended the scene. A hose reel jet was to put out the flames.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: "The crew secured the site and liaised with police officers who also attended as it is believed the fire was started deliberately."
