Two people have been taken to hospital following a serious house blaze in Crewe, caused by an e-bike battery on charge in the property.

On Saturday 27 July, emergency services received reports of an incident on Gawsworth Avenue.

At 7:41pm, four fire engines arrived at the scene, with two from Crewe, one from Sandbach and Middlewich, and an aerial ladder platform from Lymm

Crewe, Sandbach, Middlewich and Lymm fire crews used hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

On arrival, crews discovered a fire on the ground floor and first floor of the property.

Firefighters used hose reel jets to bring the blaze under control, also isolating the gas supply.

They were unable to isolate the electricity due to fire damage, with an electricity company coming to isolate it from outside the property.

North West Ambulance Service treated four casulties at the scene, with two needing hospital treatment. Cheshire Police also attended.

A fire investigation concluded an e-bike battery that had been charging, had caused the blaze.

"Crews in breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to bring the fire under control.

"They isolated the gas supply but were unable to isolate the electricity due to fire damage so the electricity company was asked to attend to isolate from outside the property.

"The loft space of the affected property and that of the adjoining house was checked for fire spread, with a high pressure fan used to clear light smokelogging.

"The crews checked for hotspots and dampened the area down.

"Police and ambulance also attended, with the ambulance crew treating four casualties at the scene, two of them being taken to hospital as a precaution.

Cheshire Police officers attended the Gawsworth Avenue fire incident. An e-bike battery that had been charging, had caused the blaze (Cheshire Police).

"Following a fire investigation, it is believed to be an e-bike battery that had been charging was the cause of the blaze."
