Motorists can expect disruption on a major Crewe road junction this week, with more traffic signal upgrades taking place.

Three-way temporary traffic lights will be in place on Edleston Road at its junction with Nantwich Road, running from Thursday 24 August until Friday 1 September.

These works, carried about by Cheshire East Highways, are part of a five-week traffic signal upgrades programme in the Nantwich Road area.

The Edleston Road junction works will be the final phase of a Cheshire East Highways five-week programme in Crewe (Ryan Parker).

The Edleston Road works will be the final phase of the project, following junction works at South Street, South Street/Mill Street and Gresty Road.

Three-way temporary traffic signals are currently in place at Gresty Road junction of Nantwich Road, lasting until Thursday 24 August.

A Cheshire East spokesperson said: "We will be carrying out traffic signal upgrades on Nantwich Road, and the surrounding junctions including South Street, Mill Street, Gresty Road and Edleston Road.

"We will also be introducing controlled crossing facilities at the junctions of Nantwich Road/South Street and Nantwich Road/Gresty Road.

These junction works, carried about by Cheshire East Highways, are part of a five-week traffic signal upgrades programme in the Nantwich Road area (Ryan Parker).

"The works are due to start on 31 July 2023 for approximately five weeks.

"The upgrades will help to ease congestion, reduce travel times and aim to improve air quality in the area.

"This project is supported by the government's Future High Streets Fund, following the council's successful bid for a total of £14.1m of funding.

"To help minimise disruption, we have carefully planned the work to take place during school summer holidays."

Traffic signal upgrades have been completed at South Street junction (Ryan Parker).

Local businesses remain open as usual during the traffic signal works, with access being maintained to properties at all times.
