The driver of a Peugeot has been taken to hospital after their vehicle overturned "onto its side" on a road in Crewe, leaving them "trapped."

At around 8pm, police, firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene, finding a Peugeot 5008 overturned onto its side - leaving the male driver trapped.

Firefighters removed the casualty from the vehicle by creating an opening in the roof.

The male driver was then handed into the care of paramedics and taken to Leighton Hospital.

Their injuries are not believed to be serious.

A Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 8pm on Sunday 20 August, police were called to reports of a collision on Gresty Lane, Rope.

"Officers attended and found that a black Peugeot 5008 had overturned.

The driver was taken to Leighton Hospital, with their injuries not believed to be serious (Cheshire Police).

"There were no reports of any serious injuries but the driver was taken to hospital as a precautionary measure."

Two fire engine crews from the town worked together to rescue the Peugeot driver.

A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "Firefighters were called to a single vehicle collision where a vehicle overturned onto its side.

"One person was found trapped inside the vehicle and required extrication.

Firefighters removed the casualty from the vehicle by creating an opening in the roof of the Peugeot 5008 (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

"Crews were able to remove the casualty by creating an opening in the roof.

"The casualty was then handed into the care of paramedics."
