Close to 20 new businesses have opened in Crewe town centre in 2024, with Nub News compiling a list of them all.

Crewe town centre has been hit with lots of shop closures in recent times, including Costa Coffee, Wilko, Iceland, Card Express, The Candle Shop and Scrivens.

The likes of JD Sports, The Works, TUI, River Island and M&S have also relocated to Crewe's Grand Junction Retail Park in recent years.

Now, despite this long list of closures, things are looking up.

Crewe's new bus station opened in May, with the multi-storey car park opening in July.

A number of businesses launched in Crewe town centre in 2024. They are:

Heritage Barbers - Crewe Market Hall - March 14

Heritage Barbers launched inside Crewe Market Hall on Thursday 14 March (RSS).

The business is operated by Crewe man, Anthony Vickers, who has been a barber for over 14 years.

Heritage Barbers welcomes walk-ins, with all of its services listed on Booksy where you can book appointments directly.

Anthony wants to represent his roots and the heritage of Crewe, hence the name Heritage Barbers.

Betsy's Burgers X The Little Dessert Shop - Market Street - March 16

Betsy's Burgers X Little Dessert Shop, Market Street, officially opened on Saturday 16 March (Ryan Parker).

Betsy's Burgers X Little Dessert Shop, 48 Market Street, officially opened on Saturday 16 March.

Taking inspiration from Brooklyn's multi-cultural vibe, Crewe is Betsy's fourth location, following on from Hanley, Lichfield and Wednesfield.

All items from Little Dessert Shop, prior to its temporary closure in January to allow this new Crewe collaboration, are served at the store.

Pudz Desserts - Crewe Market Hall - March 20

The new dessert shop serves a large range of sweet treats.

This included ice cream rolls, cakes, waffles, milkshakes and more.

Vinyl Destination - Crewe Market Hall - March 20

Crewe's only vinyl record store stocks vintage, retro and modern music.

It also sells music t-shirts, tote bags, artwork, key rings, stickers and vinyl cleaning kits.

The new business is run by Chris Moloney-Ridsale and his wife Gem.

McDonald's - Market Shopping Centre Car Park - March 27

McDonald's launched on The Market Shopping Centre Car Park, West Street, on Wednesday 27 March (Ryan Parker).

McDonald's launched on The Market Shopping Centre Car Park, West Street, on Wednesday 27 March.

The American chain's third Crewe drive thru outlet is open 24 hours.

Work had been going on at the £1.4 million development since October 2023.

McDonald's outbid Burger King for the car park site last April, which is now set to open on Grand Junction Retail Park instead.

Crewe Post Office - Victoria Centre - April 9

Crewe Post Office reopened inside Oso Go Store convenience store, 3 Victoria Centre on Tuesday 9 April.

The central area of Crewe had been without a Post Office since its facility closed down inside WHSmith in March 2023.

This closure was always meant to be temporary, with Post Office looking at securing a new operator in the town centre since.

Crewe Post Office is open 9:30am until 5:30pm, Monday to Saturday.

Rudaw's Salon - Delamere Street - July 2

Rudaw's Salon, Delamere Street, opened to customers on Tuesday 2 July (Ryan Parker).

The new salon offers the likes of highlights, hair extensions, perms and cut and finish.

Located in the old Crewe Town Post Ofifce, it also offers nail painting, nail repair, natural nails care, take off, acrylic nails and manicure.

Ice & Fire Studios - High Street - July 27

Ice & Fire Studios, High Street, officially launched with an open day event on Saturday 27 July (Meg Luan).

Ice & Fire Studios, 14 High Street, officially launched with an open day event on Saturday 27 July.

Operated by Meg Luan, from Crewe, along with partner Dan Melville (photographer), the new tattoo and photography studio takes up one half of the former Craft Beer Oasis.

Meg, who previously worked at Studio 78, Nantwich Road, for eight years, now employs Katie Owen as her junior artist, with Louise White a junior apprentice.

Select Fashion - The Market Shopping Centre - July 27

Select Fashion relocated from Earle Street to The Market Shopping Centre on Saturday 27 July (Ryan Parker).

Select Fashion relocated from Earle Street to The Market Shopping Centre on Saturday 27 July.

The retailer took on the former Furniture Outlet and Roman Originals unit, located next door to Pep & Co.

This relocation came after Select Fashion placed closing down signs on its Earle Street shop windows in February last year.

As of 2024, Select Fashion operates 105 stores nationwide. It is currently owned by Turkish entrepreneur Cafer Mahiroğlu.

The business, which has a Facebook page with 6,800 followers, is owned by Mr Josef Kondas, 32, from Slovakia.

J&N Jewellery, which sells the likes of rings, bracelets and necklaces, is located inside the former Humbugs Traditional Sweet Shop.

The new shop is open from 10am to 5pm (Monday to Saturday).

Bringing the flavours of Italy to Crewe town centre, Pasta Fresca offers dishes like spaghetti bolognese, and carbonara and seafood linguine.

Pasta Fresca made Crewe Market Hall at full capacity after replacing Bombaye Junction, now on Nantwich Road.

British Heart Foundation (BHF) Furniture - The Market Shopping Centre - September 5

BHF Furniture relocated from Victoria Shopping Centre to The Market Shopping Centre on Thursday 5 September (Ryan Parker).

BHF Furniture relocated from Victoria Shopping Centre to The Market Shopping Centre this autumn.

The new 4,500 square metre store stocks furniture, electricals and homewares, including sofas, tables, beds, wardrobes and televisions. 

With a bigger warehouse for furniture and home items, as well as more space for customer parking, the BHF hopes the new store will show customers the delights of second hand and encourage Crewe residents to pop by and shop with them. 

BHF Furniture opened at the former Argos site after 15 years opposite Asda.

Oden Lounge - High Street - October 5

Oden Lounge, High Street, officially launched on Saturday 5 October, with the business ever growing in popularity (Ryan Parker).

Operated by husband and wife, Opeyemi and Duduyemi Opaleye, The African pub and restaurant is open until 1am at weekends, offering African cuisine, along with cocktails, beers and more.

The Nigerian couple, who originally moved to Crewe in May 2018, have lived in Nantwich since 2021 and see South Cheshire as their "true home."

Oden Lounge is currently trialling its menu for three months, which along with its website, will be fully updated in January 2025.

Total Tile UK - Victoria Street - November 11

Total Tile UK, 47 Victoria Street, launched on Monday 11 November, with a ground floor and first floor showroom.

Located a the former Truly Scrumtious sweet shop, Total Tile UK is owned by Curt Hodson, who operated Total Tile and Bathrooms for 15 years until his "brief" retirement,

Total Tile UK is the first 24/7 technology tile shop in the UK, selling Spanish and Italian products, as well as bathrooms.

The Crewe town centre business allows customers to enter the store 24/7 after booking through the website.

Big Mugs - Edleston Road - November 22

Big Mugs, Edleston Road, officially launched on Friday 22 November, following a soft launch in the days prior (Ryan Parker).

Operated by Laura Donaldson and Josh Wenlock from Crewe, Big Mugs seats around 30 people and is dog-friendly.

Big Migs serves home-baked cakes, paninis, ciabatta sandwiches, teacakes, croissants and more. It also offers board games for everyone to enjoy.

At the rear end of the shop, Big Mugs has a room for event hire. This can be for book clubs and business meetings, costing £10 an hour.

Polka Dot Travel - Market Street - November 25

Polka Dot Travel Crewe, Market Street, launched on Monday 25 November, becoming the independent travel agent's 16th UK branch (Nub News).

With branches across Staffordshire, Shropshire and North Wales, Polka Dot Travel was created in October 2013 and has continued to grow from the offset.

Its new Crewe store is run by experienced duo, Jessica Thornhill (branch manager) and Olivia Evans (assistant manager), who both previously worked as travel agents in the town centre.

The new business, which takes on the former Scrapyard Salon unit, is open from 9am to 12am seven days a week.

Today Restaurant serves the likes of shawarma, pizza, grilled meats, chips, garlic bread amd fatayer.

Seating up to 30 people, customers are able to eat in or takeout.

Kerala Peppery - Earle Street - December 11

The South Indian pub and restaurant is operated by Mrs Jhoti Prakash who first opened Kerala Peppery on Meredith Street.

Kerala Peppery, offering dine-in and takeout, is named after the state of Kerala in South India, a tourist destination on the tropical Malabar coast.

The new venue serves a wide variety of authentic South Indian food along with beers, cocktails, wines, spirits and more.
