Five developments coming to Crewe in 2025
Happy New Year. Crewe Nub News has complied a list of five major developments coming to the town in 2025.
Check out out the list below:
The Southern Gateway Pedestrian and Cycling Connectivity Scheme
The Southern Gateway Pedestrian and Cycling Connectivity Scheme will connect Mill Street with the rear of Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
This scheme is aimed at transforming the southern part of Crewe town centre, creating a new arrival point into the town with a widened footpath.
A new cycleway/footway link is being created, set within a public realm scheme, located on derelict land between High Street and Forge Street.
There will be a two-way route for cyclists and a separate pedestrian route, with new street lighting.
Seating areas, trees, shrubs and a new rain garden will also be included, located between the cyclist and pedestrian route.
Work started in June 2024, with a target completion of spring 2025.
Burger King - Grand Junction Retail Park
Burger King will be launching on Crewe's Grand Junction Retail Park in early 2025, with the fast food chain hiring since October.
Taking on the former Frankie & Benny's and Gourmet 4 unit, Burger King will be employing 29 staff.
The site has had planning permission for a drive-thru, since Cheshire East Council approved Tim Hortons UK's plans in November 2023.
Then in July 2024, Burger King was given advertisement consent with 21 new signs set to be placed around the site.
The drive-thru has been constructed to the side of the 3,250 square foot retail park building, next to TK Maxx.
New 3G Football Pitch Development - King George V Playing Fields
A new 3G artificial grass pitch and a refurbished pavilion is targeted for Crewe's King George V Playing Fields in summer/autumn 2025.
Cheshire East is to work with official football development partner. Crewe FC, a three-star community club, and the Football Foundation to oversee a £1.4m partnership project.
The aim is to provide third generation all-weather artificial playing surfaces and modern changing facilities, with the emphasis on inclusivity, appealing to both male and female players and people with disabilities.
It will include wheelchair access, disabled changing areas, nursing parent facilities, wide corridors, gender-neutral change, flexible coaching, and catering areas.
These facilities would address a gap in the provision of these facilities identified within Cheshire East's Playing Pitch Strategy, while also freeing up capacity at The Cumberland Arena, currently utilised by Crewe FC.
The scheme is subject to January planning approval. It is hoped the development can be completed in time for the 2025/26 football season.
Joseph James - The Market Shopping Centre
Joseph James will be opening at the former Wilko unit inside The Market Shopping Centre in early 2025.
The Manchester-based furniture business, which began in 2019, is operated by Joseph Shenton and James Pullen.
Joseph James sells a large variety of branded furniture at discounted rates, including sofas, armchairs, beds and mattresses and dining tables and chairs,
Following the success of its Stretford location, Joseph James expanded to Stockport in February 2024, opening in the former Debenham's unit.
Joseph James has already confirmed it would open up the old Wilko entrance from Lyceum Square.
Changing Lives Together - Victoria Centre
Changing Lives Together will be opening at the former WHSmith in Crewe town centre in early 2025.
The Cheshire charity's ReUse Warehouse will be moved to Victoria Centre, with the unit under offer for several months.
Shoppers will find a large selection of furniture, household appliances, bicycles, re-use paint. bric-a-brac and more.
It is currently unclear whether this development will also include a community cafe.
Crewe Nub News will keep readers updated on these promising developments in 2025.
