Thousands of people attended the annual Crewe Lions Club 'Bonfire and Firework Display' on Tuesday 5 November at Queens Park.

The park gates were opened at 5pm, with the Guy Fawkes bonfire lit at 7pm and the 15-minute fireworks display starting at 8:15pm.

54 Crewe motorists were handed fixed penalty notices by Cheshire Police for parking offences during the Queens Park fireworks and bonfire (Crewe Police).

With this huge attendance came parking issues, with the nearby streets to park filled with cars.

Cheshire Police patrolled the area for three and a half hours, encouraging drivers to choose safe places to park.

Officers deemed 54 motorists had put "others at risk" with their parking for the Queens Park event.

PCSO, Lizzie Jolley, said: "Last night (November 5), 54 Fixed Penalty Notices were issued around Queens Park Bonfire Display. Myself and PCSO Jen Jolley patrolled that particular area for three and a half hours, encouraging drivers to choose a safer place to park.

"Just a short distance from the display, there were so many safe places to park, but many chose to park putting others at risk.

"We saw a family with a newborn baby have to walk into the road due to a vehicle fully blocking the pavement.

Queens Park gates were opened at 5pm, with the Guy Fawkes bonfire lit at 7pm and the 15-minute fireworks display starting at 8:15pm (Jonathan White).

"We saw several wheelchair users have to go into the road at oncoming traffic, as drop kerbs were purposefully blocked.

"We saw several near misses, as people parked their vehicles too close to the junctions.

"We also had to help push a car our of the mud with a kind resident, as someone had to move onto the grass due to the obstructive parking.

"We understand the display is for a few hours once a year, but everybody's safety still matters."

"We hope everybody had a beautiful evening, and enjoyed time watching the great display with family and friends."
