Crewe town centre's former M&S building has been sold at auction for over £200k above its guide price range, after two bidders fought it out.

39-47 Market Street went up for online auction under Allsop on Thursday 17 July, for a guide price between £125,000 and £150,000.

The online-only auction came to a close at 2.36pm, selling well above the guide price at £361,000.

M&S traded from the 27,417 sq ft building until August 2017, when it relocated to Grand Junction Retail Park (Ryan Parker).

The late 19th-century building has been empty since a pop-up Lambretta Outlet closed in early 2018.

M&S traded from the 27,417 sq ft building until August 2017, when it relocated to Grand Junction Retail Park.

The three-storey freehold property is located in a prominent position, fronting Market Square.

It is also on the west side of the pedestrianised Market Street and fronting Queenway, adjacent to the Royal Arcade site being redeveloped this year.

The online-only auction for 39-47 Market Street came to a close at 2.36pm on July 17, after two bidders fought it out (Ryan Parker).

Allsop advised bidders the Crewe town centre property may lend itself to reconfiguration to provide smaller retail units or a variety of alternative uses and redevelopment, subject to obtaining all the necessary consents.

Crewe town centre's former Burton/Dorothy Perkins unit was recently sold off at auction to a local businessman for an undisclosed fee, with plans to use all floors of the Market Street building.

The upper floors of the former Select building on Earle Street are being converted into apartments, with plans for flats above the old Boots Pharmacy yet to be decided.

Allsop declined to reveal the winning bidders identity to Crewe Nub News, as legal matters relating to the sale continue.
