A new family-run tattoo and photography studio has opened in Crewe town centre, with the business set to be offering piercings and laser tattoo removal soon.

Ice & Fire Studios, High Street, officially launched with an open day event on Saturday 27 July.

Operated by Meg Luan, from Crewe, along with partner Dan Melville (photographer), the new business takes up one half of the former Craft Beer Oasis.

Meg, who previously worked at Studio 78, Nantwich Road, for eight years, now employs Katie Owen as her junior artist, with Louise White a junior apprentice.

The owner told Nub News: "I am so relieved the renovation is complete, it was hard work balancing still working at another studio and the building works, both financially and mentally.

"This was an abandoned building, in a complete wreck, which needed to be completed. We have renovated all sorts from electrics to new windows.

"Before this, I had my apprenticeship and continued to tattoo at studio 78 and my partner was part-time doing wedding photography as well as other jobs.

"We both decided it was time to make our goal of having our own studio a reality.

"Ice & Fire Studios has had so much support from mine and Katie's existing clients, family and friends.

Ice & Fire Studios has applied for the Open in Crewe scheme, offering capital grants of up to £30,000 for businesses taking on leases on vacant town premises (Nub News).

"This made our open day a massive success, seeing old and new faces was amazing.

"We currently offer just tattooing services, but we will be aiming to also offer piercings soon and laser tattoo removal in the long run.

"We are also a photography studio which will offer bespoke photoshoot packages such as pets, family, boudoir and social media content creation.

"We will hopefully be having an open day for the photo side in the next few weeks."

"The new walkway will improve the visual look of our end of High Street. It also gives us a nice walk through into the town centre.

"As someone who has grown up in Crewe and visited the town centre a lot when I was younger, I am hoping the improvements will bring it back to how it used to be, busy. But there is still a lot of work to be done.

"People have their opinions of Crewe but do nothing to help improve it, I do believe the council have plans in place to help, such as the Open in Crewe grants which we accessed.

"Unless we take the leap and open new businesses and use them, it will remain a ghost town.

"We need to shop small business, use the facilities and clean up some areas where waste/bin management is appalling.

Ice & Fire Studios is open for appointments only (Tuesday and Wednesday) and from 10am to 5pm (Thursday to Saturday) (Nub News).

"I am honoured to open my studio in my home town and hoping the new projects will make it great again."
