Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, has appealed for help to find a new home for a well-loved local truck stop - with land purchased by Network Rail.

Crewe Truck Stop, Cowley Lane, has been operating for 15 years.

According to Google reviews, it is one of the most popular such stops in the country – resting hundreds of truck drivers every night.

Crewe and Nantwich MP, Dr Kieran Mullan, has helped Crewe Truck Stop secure a three-month extension for the business to remain at the Cowley Way site (Wikimedia Commons).

Due to land requirements by Network Rail, the site was sold this March, leaving the future of the business uncertain.

Dr Mullan has since helped Crewe Truck Stop secure a three-month extension for the business to remain at the site, helping it to buy more time to find a new permanent home.

The Crewe MP told Nub News: "I was first contacted by Ian, the director of Crewe Truckstop, when he asked to meet about the issues he was having finding a new premise for his business.

"I held a meeting with Network Rail to discuss his situation and was able to help them secure the business an additional three months to find somewhere new.

"I am asking the local community – if you know of a site that would be suitable, please do get in touch and suggest it to us.

"I know, from the reaction of drivers to the news, that this is a well-used and important local family-run business.

"Trucks and lorries are essential for local businesses, and having somewhere for drivers to stop is crucial.

"Any help finding a new home for the Truck Stop would be greatly appreciated."

Crewe Truck Stop was set to permanently close to customers after Sunday 30 July, but is now expected to remain at the site until Autumn.

Director of Crewe Truck Stop, Ian Prophett, added: "We should have closed at the end of July 2023 when Network Rail were to take it over in its entirety.

Network Rail has allowed Crewe Truck Stop to operate for longer, giving more time for the facility to find an alternative site (Google Earth).

"Because they can see the need for our facility, we have been given a reprieve for a few months, but we still need to find an alternative site.

"We are one of the very few parking facilities in the country that is secure.

"Drivers can park with us in the comfort that they are being looked over.

"They can go to sleep in the knowledge that they are safe, and have toilets, showers as well as laundry facilities if they need them.

"They can have a peaceful rest and leave the next morning to start their long day's work feeling rested and "human".

"Is this not how everyone wants to start their working day?"

"All we are asking is for a site to operate from; we will take care of the rest."
