Mayor of Cheshire East Council, Cllr David Marren has spoken to Nub News about his involvement in Crewe's Polish Evening (Cllr David Marren).

The Mayor of Cheshire East Council has said he is 'very pleased to be involved' in Crewe's second Polish Evening this year - taking place within Crewe town centre.

A Polish Evening will be held inside Crewe Central, Lyceum Square, this Saturday (July 16) running from 4pm to 11pm.

The event is being held in aid of Ukrainian refugees - fleeing the war with Russia.

Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Nan Walton with Mayor of Cheshire East Council, Cllr David Marren At Queens Park. Both spoke to Nub news this week (Cllr David Marren).

In May, Cllr David Marren, who represents Shavington, was elected as the new mayor for Cheshire East Council.

Today (July 15), he spoke to Nub News about being involved with the upcoming Polish Evening.

Cllr Marren told Nub News: "I'm very pleased to be involved and working with a great team in the organisation of our second 'Polish evening.'

"Perhaps I might better describe it as a multi-cultural event where a wide Cheshire East audience experience the sort of music, dancing, food and chat that ordinarily many might only experience on holiday - despite the fact that this is all here now but unknown to many."

The Polish Evening schedule for Crewe Central, Lyceum Square, this Saturday - July 16 (Crewe Market Hall).

The Crewe Polish Evening will include traditional Polish food and drink, Polish Elvis Presley, Poppies Polish Music Band, a children's dance performance, arm wrestling and a prize raffle.

Cllr Marren added: "These sort of events also help strengthen community relationships locally and can only help build positive attitudes to those living outside the UK.

"This is a very necessary thing in the light of what is happening in part of Eastern Europe.

"That thought is reflected in our raffle fundraiser where our receipts will be used to assist Ukrainian refugees."

The event will also contain a children's play corner, face painting and a bouncy castle.

Earlier this week (July 13), Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Nan Walton told Nub News: "It's great to see our community celebrating our diversity and I hope that the Polish Evening has a long future in Crewe."

This is Crewe's second Polish Evening this year. The event is free for all to attend (Crewe Nub News).

There has been an established Polish community in Crewe since the Second World War - with there once being Polish Social Club on West Street.

Polish Evening aims to enhance this community. The event is free for all to attend.
