Firefighters and police respond to Crewe bin wagon 'well alight' in the middle of roadworks
Local firefighters and police had to respond to a Crewe bin wagon 'well alight' in the middle of roadworks - close to Leighton Hospital.
The incident was reported on Wednesday afternoon (July 13), at 4:16pm, Middlewich Road - close to the NWCP works.
Two fire engines from Crewe arrived at the scene - along with Cheshire Police officers.
They found the bin wagon 'well alight' and flames had even spread to a nearby fence by the road and overhead power cables.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to a bin wagon on fire on the road in Crewe.
"The vehicle was in the middle of road works and well alight. The fire spread to a nearby fence and overhead power cables.
"Cheshire Police set up an outer cordon and firefighters used two hose reels and a covering jet to help extinguish the flames."
Today (July 15), a Cheshire Police spokesperson told Nub News: "At around 4.20pm on Wednesday (July 13), officers were called to reports of a bin wagon fire on Middlewich Road, Leighton.
"Officers attended and assisted with road closures whilst the fire was extinguished."
At exactly the same day and time of this incident (July 13), Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were also called to reports of a shed fire in Crewe.
One fire engine from Crewe arrived to the garden shed on Kipling Way, which contacted a gas cylinder.
Firefighters used two hose reels to extinguish the fire and cool the gas cylinder.
