Giant elephants and Stephenson's 'Rocket' to take over Crewe Day 2026
By Ryan Parker 17th Jun 2026
A reimagined Stephenson's Rocket steam train, giant elephants and a community parade featuring local groups and performers will take over Crewe town centre when Crewe Day returns on Saturday 4 July.
The free event, running from 12pm to 6pm, will bring together residents, businesses, community organisations and visitors for an afternoon celebrating the town's heritage, engineering legacy and community spirit.
Organised by Crewe Town Council with support from Crewe BID and Discover Crewe, the annual event marks the anniversary of the first trains passing through Crewe railway station on 4 July, 1837.
189 years later, Crewe Day has become one of the town's biggest annual events, celebrating both its railway history and the people, businesses and organisations that make the town what it is today.
This year's programme includes The People Powered Rocket by outdoor arts company Walk the Plank, alongside giant elephants, a giant lantern, live music, artisan and makers' markets, heritage activities, brewery tours and family attractions.

Community groups and performers from across Crewe will once again play a central role in the celebrations.
Visitors can also enjoy activities at Crewe Heritage Centre, step back in time to 1837 and experience the Miniature Steam Up with Foxfield Railway.
Leader of Crewe Town Council, Cllr Jill Rhodes, said: "Crewe Day is an opportunity to celebrate everything that makes our town special.
"It celebrates an important part of the town's history, but it's equally about the people, organisations and businesses that make up our community today, and bringing them together for a day everyone can enjoy.
"From the giant parade and live entertainment to the family activities taking place across the town centre, we hope everyone will come along and be part of what promises to be a great day for Crewe."
Crewe-based breakfast manufacturer, Mornflake, is supporting this year's Crewe Day event.
Crewe BID, which represents businesses across Crewe town centre, Nantwich Road and Grand Junction Retail Park, is also backing the celebrations as part of its work to promote the town and encourage more visitors into the area.
Crewe BID Manager, Rose Horner, said: "Crewe Day is a fantastic showcase for the town as it brings people into Crewe, shines a spotlight on the businesses, organisations and attractions that make the town unique, and creates a brilliant atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.
"Events like this play an important role in encouraging people to spend time in the town, support local businesses and discover everything Crewe has to offer.
"There is a huge amount planned for July 4 and we're looking forward to seeing the town come together once again."
