Crewe critical care doctor makes heartfelt public plea to register as organ donor

Leighton Hospital consultant, Dr Jon Broad, is urging people to take just two minutes to confirm their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register.
He issued the appeal as part of Organ Donation Week, highlighting that this one simple act could save and improve the lives of up to nine patients.
The Clinical Lead for Organ Donation at Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, told Nub News: "In healthcare we see firsthand how lives are transformed through donation. It is one of the most powerful gifts a person can give.
"Donors and their families think of others at what is an unimaginably difficult time. Their incredible generosity and altruism never ceases to inspire me. Ultimately, what they do can dramatically change or even save someone's life."

Leighton Hospital is an active donor centre, supporting end-of-life patients to have a clear and compassionate pathway to donate their organs.
Dr Broad, who works in Critical Care, said: "The most important thing you can do this Organ Donation Week is to confirm your decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register.
"I can't stress enough how vital this is. It only takes two minutes and it could be the difference between life and death for someone else.
"Organ donation is a rare and precious opportunity. Only a small number of patients who sadly pass away are eligible to donate, which makes absolutely every registration count."
Organ Donation Week runs from 22 to 28 September. It is a national campaign led by NHS Blood and Transplant to raise awareness.
Across the UK, more than 8,000 people are currently waiting for a donated organ. In the past year, more than 400 people died because they did not get the transplant they needed.
Organs that can be donated by people who have died include the heart, lungs, kidneys, pancreas, liver and small bowel.
Tissue such as skin, bone and heart valves can also be used to save and improve people's lives, and corneas can help to restore sight.

If people want to be a donor, being on the NHS Organ Donor Register makes it more likely to happen. It is the only place to record your decision about organ donation and make your choices clear.
People can choose to donate some or all their organs and tissue, and they can amend or withdraw a registration at any time.
Director of Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation for NHS Blood and Transplant, Anthony Clarkson, said: "It is brilliant of Mid Cheshire Hospitals to show its support for Organ Donation Week at a time when more people than ever need a transplant to transform their lives.
"We need people to take two minutes to save up to nine lives by confirming their decision on the NHS Organ Donor Register."
