Crewe care home residents remember those we've lost on National Day of Reflection
A CREWE care home staged a series of events to mark National Day of Reflection
Residents and staff at Belong Care Village in Brookhouse Drive created a 'sea of daffodils' in their garden and also reopened a time capsule they had created.
They also hosted a religious service and along, with local school children, created some art to display on the walls of the care complex.
National Day of Reflection, which was marked yesterday (Wednesday, March 23) enabled people to come together to support those who lost loved ones during the pandemic.
It was first celebrated in 2021 to mark the first anniversary of the imposition of the first lockdown.
Community events were held across the country and there was a national minute's silence to remember those who lost their lives to the virus.
The 'sea of daffodils' at the care village is visible from residents' windows and balconies and will serve as a place of reflection and hope.
The Rev. Peter Bennett of St. Andrew's Church conducted a service of hope and reflection to remember those whose lives were lost.
While the time capsule, which contained images, letters and memorabilia, was created by the residents a year ago.
Children at Pebble Brook and Gainsborough Primary Schools and Brooks nursery also helped create some art work.
Belong care village experience coordinator Jess Butler said: "It's important to stop and take stock of everything that has happened in the past two years. The events of the day provided an opportunity to pause and reflect on how far we've come in recent months and importantly to remember those members of the belong community who sadly are no longer with us.
"The act of coming together and the beautiful displays also created a sense of hope as we look ahead to the future."
