Crewe's latest exotic pet store has expanded its invertebrate range and stock - adding to its unique selection of pets and pet products already on sale.

Evolutionary Exotics, Edleston Road, officially opened in July last year. It currently sells Tarantulas, Scorpions, Mantis and insects.

"The area was in dire need of a specialist," says Store Manager Josh Flood.

This month, Evolutionary Exotics added to its aquatics products in store - including tank decor, artificial plants, maintenance equipment and frozen fish food.

The store sells a variety of stock from live food and frozen food for exotic animals to their equipment including, heating, lighting, substrates and decor.

Evolutionary Exotics has been waiting on its AAL (Animal Activities Licensing), to sell animals like bearded dragons, chameleons, snakes, tortoise and toads.

Josh told Nub News: "The license for the animals is currently in the works. The rising costs and the AAL coming in to inspect mean it has been delayed.

"I haven't been told when they are coming to inspect yet."

Josh recently studied at Reaseheath College in Nantwich, where he achieved a level two diploma in Animal Care and a level three extended diploma in Animal Management.

He has also worked in Reaseheath Zoo, as well as picking up a wealth of experience at various other reptile pet shops in nearby Stoke-on-Trent and Manchester.

Josh told Nub News: "I decided to open Evolutionary Exotics because there was a lack of a decent specialist pet store in the area supplying a wealth of knowledge about leading husbandry (agricultural) techniques and how to keep these animals correctly.

"I've got a strong passion and drive for these animals, it was always a dream of mine to open an exotic pet shop at some point in my life.

"We are different to other pet stores because we specialise in the more weird and wonderful. There is a huge hobby behind reptile keeping and I know the area has a lot of keepers who have been wanting a really decent shop in the area.

"A lot of the stock I can get here in Crewe, can't be purchased in any large chain pet store around."

Last month, Evolutionary Exotics expanded their invertebrate livestock list, adding more breeds of tarantulas, scorpions, mantis, millipedes, cockroaches and African land snails for customers.

"This pet store is somewhere people can trust with knowledge, it is also somewhere they can get their equipment and bits easily from.

"I will always be open to make sure the local community of reptile keepers always get good food and bits available."

The business was concerned with the junction closure recently announced by Cheshire East Council close to the store.

Following the Nub News article, Evolutionary Exotics posted on social media: "Keep an eye out for this people, it may cause issues getting to the shop.

"Hopefully you can still get access to the car park behind. We will be open and here for anything you still need."

In case you missed it: Warning: busy junction to close in Crewe town centre for six weeks.

The business achieves a rating of 5/5 on Facebook. The page can be viewed here.

Evolutionary Exotics are open 10:30am to 6pm Tuesday to Saturday, 10:30am to 4pm every Sunday and is closed on Mondays.
