Crewe Alexandra's manager has stepped down from the role for 'compassionate reasons' - moving down to first team assistant manager.

Alex Morris' decision was confirmed by Crewe Alexandra on Friday afternoon (November 4).

The 39-year-old has stepped down from the role for 'compassionate reasons' after 24 matches.

Former assistant manager, Lee Bell, has been appointed Crewe's first team interim manager with immediate effect.

Bell made 128 appearances for Crewe in two separate spells - scoring four goals from midfield.

Crewe Alexandra released a statement on its website, saying: "The club wishes to announce that Alex Morris will be stepping down as First Team Manager and will become First Team Assistant Manager.

"This move has been requested by Alex, after weeks of deliberation, for compassionate reasons."
