Three young rhythmic gymnasts are set to be celebrated on Tuesday 29 September, after returning from the National Special Olympics Summer Games with a haul of gold and silver medals.

Hopes and Beams will hold a special celebration on Broad Street from 7pm, following the trio's success at the games in Birmingham.

21-year-old Poppy Wood Wright collected five gold medals competing in the most advanced Level 4 routines.

Teammates Amelia Biel and Amber Fielding competed in the under-16 Level 1 competition, collecting an all-round gold and all-round silver respectively.

The celebration will be attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire Lady Alexis Redmond and Sir Phil Redmond, who will meet staff, volunteers and past athletes at Hopes and Beams.

Hopes and Beams CEO, Iain Chalmers, told Nub News: "These three rhythmic gymnasts have outperformed themselves, to obtain national recognition in their sport.

"Rhythmic gymnastics is a beautiful sport which children and young adults with intellectual disabilities are drawn to.

"It's a mixture of dance, ballet and gymnastics performed to music using Ribbon, Hoop, Ball and Clubs. It develops coordination and strength and in a club, situation is integral in developing language skills and patience."

The National Special Olympics Games are the official qualifiers for next year's World Special Olympics Games in Chile.

With only two places available, Hopes and Beams is hopeful the gymnasts can secure a place at the prestigious international event.

Iain added: "Hopes and Beams receives no central funding and to be sponsored by Nub News as a recipient of their fortnightly lottery is something for which the charity is most grateful."

Hopes & Beams is one of four Crewe charities alongsideSt Paul's Charity, The Wishing Well and Chance Changing Lives to receive regular funding through the fortnightly Crewe Prize Draw.
