The Crewe Prize Draw, supported by Swansway Motor Group, has presented its fifth charity cheque, with Hopes & Beams receiving £866.07.

The donation comes after just the first six prize draws, with Hopes & Beams using the funds to keep supporting children with disabilities and their families, while also providing opportunities for older members of the community.

Nub News launched the Crewe Prize Draw to help raise money for charities, with Hopes & Beams one of four charity partners alongside Chance Changing Lives, The Wishing Well and St. Paul's Centre.

Co-director of Hopes & Beams, Ian Chalmers, told Nub News: ​"​Donations are crucial because we have no central government funding and have to fight for every penny.

"Essential maintenance, like a recent £1,000 roof repair, creates huge unexpected bills. We are also developing new initiatives, like qualified disability cooking classes, which take money to run.

​"Everyone here works incredibly hard. We only have four staff members, all on minimum wage, who routinely work double the hours they are paid for.

"Any funding for new projects is deeply appreciated. People are most welcome to come and attend our activities.

"We do a lot of work with children with disabilities and their families. Teaching disability sport isn't just about skills; it's teaching patience, coordination, balance, and working with a peer group. It allows them to develop health, fitness, and strength.

​"We also work with older members of the community, because loneliness is a scourge in society.

"We have a Golden Memories group where we chat, do practical activities, and share wonderful stories. The most valuable thing you can give people is time.

​"We welcome anyone to come to our activities or volunteer, even for an hour a week.

"Everybody has a skill, whether it's fundraising, putting up posters, cleaning, working front-of-house in our restaurant, music, or running poetry nights. There are a million jobs people can do—just come and have a chat.

​"Monday to Friday is the best time to come down. We also have Poppy's Restaurant, which brings older people together over traditional, old-style food like roast dinners rather than modern fast food.
