A Crewe charity has launched an emergency campaign, after revealing a 156 per cent measurable increase in need across Cheshire East.

St Paul's Charity, operating under a new logo, says demand for its food bank is continuing to rise while public donations are falling.

The charity is launching its "Not On Our Watch" campaign, calling on local residents to commit to a recurring donation of just £2 a month.

It says the amount is less than the cost of a cup of coffee or a bus fare, but could make a significant difference when people across the community contribute.

Operating since 1986, St Paul's says one in three children in Cheshire East are going to school hungry, while 76 per cent of children facing poverty have working parents.

CEO, Jez Chalmers, told Nub News: "Mums and dads are trying their best to make ends meet, and yet they are still coming up short.

"We know that demand for the food bank has continued to rise, but donations have continued to fall. It is getting to an extreme point.

"That is less than a coffee or a bus fare, but if we all do that, it will make a big difference.

"A community-wide crisis requires a community-wide response.

"If we stand together, that little bit becomes a tidal wave of support so food poverty gets booted out of our neighbourhoods."

Local businesses are also being urged to support the "Not On Our Watch" campaign.

St. Paul's are currently in conversation with local corporate partners looking to help cover essential advertising costs, or promote the campaign to their workforces.

The charity is also updating its digital systems and has changed its online payment system to make donations easier.

As part of its wider efforts to support the community, St Paul's has also expanded the operating days of its popular furniture sale at Hightown.

The service aims to reduce landfill waste while providing affordable, quality reusable furniture, with vans on the road every day to collect unwanted items.

Jez said: "We're still the cheapest local provider of great quality reusable stock."

Every penny spent at the Crewe furniture sale helps support the charity's community work.

The expanded furniture sale is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 4.30pm, and Friday from 9.30am to 1pm.

Residents are encouraged to donate unwanted pre-loved furniture or visit the sale to find affordable items, with the charity saying both donations and purchases help fund its vital work.

St Paul's Charity is one of four Crewe charities alongside Hopes & Beams, The Wishing Well and Chance Changing Lives to receive regular funding through the fortnightly Crewe Prize Draw.
