Crewe dad-of-five wins prize draw to 'pay off Christmas' after shock phone call
By Ryan Parker 23rd Oct 2026
Crewe resident, Simon Powell, is the ninth winner of the £1,500 Crewe Prize Draw, who plans to "pay off Christmas" with the winnings, treating his five children and grandchildren.
This draw, supported by Swansway Motor Group, not only saw one lucky local resident take home an incredible £1,500 cash prize, but also raised money for good causes across the town, proving everyone can be a winner.
There were also four lucky winners of £20 each and those tickets were 10793 Green, 10850 Blue, 10316 Green and 10858 Yellow.
The Crewe Prize Draw next takes place on Thursday 5 November at 7.30pm. Don't forget to buy your tickets HERE.
Simon, who lives on Elm Drive, told Nub News: "I don't normally answer phone calls if it's late, but it was a mobile number, so I thought I'd ring back.
"I had got an email, but I didn't think anything of it because you get runners-up prizes and things like that. This was only my third draw last night, it was my sixth ticket in total.
"Finding out I had won from yourself was a bit of a shock, really.

"I always say, because I'm a football lad and that always goes belly up, 'if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck. I couldn't win a raffle' That's what I always say, well, obviously until now.
"The first person I told was my brother, and he just thought I was lying because I texted him a couple of weeks ago about entering the Crewe Prize Draw.
"I didn't even know it was a thing until about four weeks ago when I saw that one of your colleagues, Louis, had won it and donated the money to the four charities, so I thought I'd have a go.
"Winning this money pays Christmas off, really. The family will be expecting some good presents.
"I've always lived in Crewe; I was born and bred here. I went to Monks Coppenhall, (now the Academy), but it was just Monks Coppenhall when I went. I went to Coppenhall High School after that.
"My plans are just paying Christmas off. The nicest thing that's ever happened to me, without a shadow of a doubt, is obviously my children, and the grandchildren.
"I have five children: my youngest has just turned ten, and my eldest is 29. My youngest daughter lives in Dingwall up in Scotland, so it never stops."
