A Nub News employee who scooped the latest £1,500 Crewe Prize Draw jackpot has decided to give away his entire prize to the four local charities supported by the draw.

Louis Hancock was the latest name to come out on top in the fortnightly Crewe Prize Draw, which was launched by Nub News earlier this year to give local people the chance to win cash while raising money for good causes across the town.

However, with Louis himself working for Nub News, he has decided not to keep a penny of his £1,500 winnings.

Instead, the money will be divided equally between the Crewe Prize Draw's four charity partners, The Wishing Well, Hopes and Beams, St Paul's Centre and Chance Changing Lives, meaning each organisation will receive an additional £375.

Louis regularly buys a handful of tickets for the draw as a way of supporting the initiative and the charities involved, but never expected his own ticket to be the one selected.

He said: "I buy a few tickets every fortnight to help support the draw and the charities involved.

"You never really think you're actually going to win. I think everyone buys a ticket hoping their number might come up, but when it actually happens it's a bit of a shock.

"I'd thought from the start that, on the off chance I ever did win, I'd give the money to the charities partnered with us in the draw.

"Obviously, working for Nub News and knowing what we're trying to achieve with the Crewe Prize Draw, it just felt like the right thing to do.

"The whole point of the draw is to raise money for brilliant organisations doing important work in Crewe, so I'm really pleased that the £1,500 can go back into the community.

"Hopefully it can make a small difference to each of the four charities and the people they support - and I'll still be buying my tickets for the next draw."

Crewe Nub News launched the Crewe Prize Draw in June, supported by Crewe-based family business Swansway Motor Group, with a simple message: Win Big, Support Local.

Tickets cost just £2, with a draw taking place every fortnight.

One ticket holder wins a guaranteed minimum cash prize of £1,500, while another four winners each receive £20.

At the same time, every ticket purchased helps generate funding for organisations making a difference within the Crewe community.

A minimum of 37.5 per cent of Crewe Prize Draw proceeds goes towards the charities, meaning the more people who take part, the greater the potential benefit for local causes.

The four charity partners are The Wishing Well, Hopes and Beams, St Paul's Centre and Chance Changing Lives.

The Wishing Well works across Crewe and South Cheshire to improve health and wellbeing, reduce social isolation and support disadvantaged members of the community.

Hopes and Beams, based on Broad Street, works with children and adults to help people discover their potential through a range of activities and support.

St Paul's Centre provides practical help for households across Crewe, including its vital food bank provision, while Chance Changing Lives supports people facing poverty, food insecurity and homelessness.

The impact of the Crewe Prize Draw is already being felt.

Previous funding generated by the draw has helped The Wishing Well meet unexpected costs to keep its Jubilee House headquarters accessible, while St Paul's Centre has received funding to support its food bank and Chance Changing Lives has received hundreds of pounds towards its work tackling poverty, hunger and homelessness.

The latest £1,500 donation from Louis will now provide another £375 for each of the four organisations, on top of the money already being generated for them through ticket sales.

The Crewe Prize Draw is exclusively supported by Swansway Motor Group, the family-owned automotive business which started in Crewe and has retained strong links to the town as it has grown.

Since its launch, the draw has seen a succession of local winners take home £1,500, including Nantwich grandad Rob Brown, lifelong Crewe resident Graham White, David Bratherton and Crewe Alex supporter Caira Tunnicliffe.

Now, for the latest draw, the £1,500 winning ticket will ultimately produce four more winners – the local charities it was created to support.

The Crewe Prize Draw takes place every other Thursday at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £2, with one guaranteed minimum £1,500 winner and four £20 winners selected in each draw.
