Crewe Town Council has made spending decisions over Lumen and TrAction (above) events

CREWE Town Council has awarded the contract for its popular Lumen event to Blackpool Borough Council.

Councillors at this week's full council meeting approved the recommendation by the marketing and events committee that the Lancashire authority should be paid £52,000 for delivering an "amended Covid-19" event following a successful competitive tender.

A MULTI-STOREY carpark behind Crewe's Royal Hotel carries a £1.65 million asking price - while the iconic hospitality establishment is to remain closed while it is sold.

The 243-space carpark, geared developers say to HS2 traffic, is to be built on land occupied by the former Box nightclub and music venue next to the famous old hotel, one of the first town landmarks travellers alighting from the rail station have seen for generations.

Crewe Bus Station

HOPES have been raised by Crewe Town Board that redevelopment of the town's eyesore bus station can be undertaken "sooner rather than later".

The new body says some "bureaucracy" needs to be cut through, but it is seeking a new approach to the problem. Labour councillors in Crewe recently raised a petition calling for immediate action to remedy the blighted town interchange and make it "fit for purpose".
