A woman has been charged with arson, the assault of an emergency worker and other offences, after reporting a serious house blaze in Crewe.

On Tuesday 2 January, emergency services received reports of fire on Sable Road, Shavington.

At around 9pm, Cheshire Police and Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene.

Firefighters tackled a serious blaze on the first-floor of a property, putting it out with two hose reel jets.

Contrary to reports, crews confirmed no one was trapped inside, with suspicions the fire was started deliberately by the caller and occupant.

A woman was arrested at the scene on suspicion of arson.

She was also arrested for the assault of an emergency worker and persistent use of public communication causing annoyance.

Following an investigation, Polly Swindail, 31, has been charged with the three offences. She has been remanded to appear in court.

Contrary to reports, Cheshire Fire and Rescue confirmed no one was trapped inside, with suspicions the fire was started deliberately by the caller and occupant (Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service).

A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "A female has been charged with arson and other offences after an incident in Shavington.

"On Tuesday 2 January, response officers attended an emergency call to an address in Shavington after reports of a house fire.

"Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service were also in attendance.

"A female at the address on Sable Road was arrested at the scene and the investigation was carried out by detectives into the circumstances.

Polly Swindai; has been remanded to appear in court at a later date (Nub News).

"She has been remanded to appear in court."
