Six Crewe pubs and restaurants have been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating for this year - Nub News investigates which ones they are.
The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.
The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.
A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business.
Now, we consider Crewe pubs and restaurants given the highest food hygiene rating for 2022.
All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of September 6:
Ego at the Fox, Crewe Road, Haslington - Five (February 12 2022).
Hero's Bar, Crewe Railway Station - Five (April 28 2022).
Lyceum Restaurant, Heath Street - Five (February 12 2022).
Thai Corner, Nantwich Road - Five (May 18 2022).
The Cheshire Inn, Nantwich Road - Five (August 5 2022).
The White Lion, Warmingham Road - Five (January 15 2022).
A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.
At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:
- how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
- the physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
- how the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.
The six listed Crewe pubs and restaurants were rated five-star based on all these checks.
Crewe Nub News will now investigate five-star hygiene rated businesses in 2022.
