Six Crewe takeaways have been awarded a five-star food hygiene rating for this year - Nub News investigates which ones they are.

The Food Standard Agency (FSA) Food Hygiene Rating Scheme, is aimed at helping people choose where to eat out or shop for food.

The FSA scheme is in partnership with local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

It gives businesses a rating from 0 to 5 - displayed at their premises and online.

A five-star hygiene rating means 'hygiene standards are very good' for the business (FSA).

Last week, Crewe Nub News, put together the list of Crewe businesses which have been recently been given a food hygiene rating of one-star or zero-star.

Now, we consider Crewe takeaways given the highest food hygiene rating for 2022.

All information was taken from the Food Standard Agency website as of August 22:

A food safety officer from Cheshire East Council inspected the Crewe businesses to check that they were following food hygiene law so that the food was safe to eat.

At all inspections, the officer checked the following three elements:

  • how hygienically the food is handled – how it is prepared, cooked, re-heated, cooled and stored
  • the physical condition of the business –including cleanliness, layout, lighting, ventilation, pest control and other facilities
  • how the business manages ways of keeping food safe, looking at processes, training and systems to ensure good hygiene is maintained. The officer can then assess the level of confidence in standards being maintained in the future.

Four of Crewe's five-star hygeine rated takeaways were in CW1, with two in CW2 (Ryan Parker).

The six listed Crewe takeaways were rated five-star based on all these checks.

Crewe Nub News will now investigate five-star hygiene rated pubs and restaurants for 2022.
