Water activities have been cancelled at a popular Crewe park until 'things are resolved' after four geese were found dead - with two sent for avian bird flu testing.
Yesterday (September 12), Queens Park Wildlife Volunteers discovered two deceased Canadian geese on the lake.
Before this, two Canadian geese were found dead within the park's grounds and sent away for avian flu testing by DEFRA (Government Department).
Another goose was seen to be unwell, described as 'spinning around' the lake by volunteers.
Following this concerning news, Queens Park made the decision to cancel fishing and the hiring of paddle boats on the lake.
Yesterday evening, The Friends of Queens Park volunteers group confirmed the news on social media.
A statement read: "Update on the Canadian geese that have passed away: DEFRA have been today (September 12) and taken the dead geese to be tested for avian bird flu (awaiting results).
"There are two other dead geese on the lake itself and ANSA council are trying to arrange for them to be taken away.
"It looks like there is another Canadian goose that's not well on the lake spinning around.
"I've informed RSPCA Today and awaiting a call from them, hopefully they will come with a boat and sort that one out
"The boats from park life are now cancelled and won't be open until things are resolved.
"Fishing on the lake is now cancelled and won't be open till this has been resolved.
"Please keep us informed if anyone sees a bird in distress and I will contact the relevant people.
"Please don't touch a dead or distressed bird until we no what's happening."
Today (September 13), Friends of Queens Park told Nub News it was waiting for a response from DEFRA - which will then be passed on to Cheshire East Council.
As a mark of respect for the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, Music Sunday in the Park Life Café this Sunday (September 18), has been rescheduled to Sunday 23 October.
