37-year-old woman charged with drink driving after car collides with Crewe road sign

A 37-year-old woman from Nantwich has been charged with drink driving - after her vehicle smashed into a Crewe road sign.

The incident on Coppenhall Lane, was reported to emergency services at 2:15am on Sunday (August 21).

A resident of Queens Drive, Nantwich, was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has since been charged.

Today (August 22), a Cheshire Constabulary spokesperson confirmed the incident to Nub News.

The spokesperson said: "At 2.15am on Sunday (August 21), police attended to a collision on Coppenhall Lane in Crewe.

"The collision involved a car colliding with a road sign.

"A 37-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and has since been charged.

"The local resident of Queens Drive in Nantwich, has been charged with drink driving.

A 37-year-old woman, of Queens Drive, Nantwich has been charged with drink driving. She will appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday - September 8 (Cheshire Constabulary).

"She is due to appear at Crewe Magistrates' Court on Thursday 8 September."

The collision caused a small fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle.

One fire engine attended from Crewe attended the scene - putting out the fire.

After the incident, a Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service Spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to a collision involving a car and a road sign. 

The collision caused a small fire in the engine compartment of the vehicle (Cheshire Fire and Recsue).

"Firefighters used a hose reel jet to extinguish a small fire which had started in the engine compartment of the vehicle."
