A SUPERMARKET has replaced a Christmas tree and lights stolen from a village hall.
Wistaston Memorial Hall was targeted by thieves earlier this month when its Christmas tree, lights and a retaining post in a raised flowerbed were stolen.
Volunteers at the hall take great pride every year decorating the frontage and planting the Christmas tree by Wistaston Bowling Green next to the Hall.
Now Tesco has made a generous donation of a new 6ft tree and set of lights to Wistaston Parish Council, which has been placed in the same location.
Sandra Jenkins, Manager at the Tesco Extra store on Vernon Way in Crewe, contacted council clerk Andrea Cross when she heard about the theft.
A Tesco spokesperson said: "When we saw what had happened, we knew we had to help out. We want to be a key part of the communities that we serve and Sandra, and her team, demonstrated that attitude in helping to ensure Christmas celebrations can go ahead at the Memorial Hall."
A Wistaston Memorial Hall spokesperson said: "We would like to thank Sandra for her actions which demonstrate we have a strong community that really care about Wistaston. The Christmas tree and lights will once again bring joy to the community."
Wistaston Memorial Hall on Church Lane in Wistaston was built over seventy years ago in memory of the sixteen men from Wistaston who lost their lives in the Second World War.
If anyone saw anything suspicious at the hall or knows who took the original tree and lights they are asked to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting IML866756.
