Staff and pupils self-isolating at Crewe school after positive Covid-19 test
A CREWE head teacher admits positive Covid-19 tests have become the "new normal" for Cheshire East schools.
A number of staff and children are self-isolating at Sir William Stanier High School after a member of staff returned a positive test
The school told a "small number" of its staff and pupils to stay at home last Friday. But, it says, as the teacher is "highly unlikely to have become infected" while at work there was no need to ask classes and year groups to undertake remote studies.
All those who were identified at risk have been contacted and are now self-isolating for 14 days.
Principal Jason Fraser stressed in a letter sent to parents at the end of last week that all Public Health England guidelines have been followed, while a risk assessment has been completed based around the school's track and trace system.
Mr Fraser said: "A positive test in schools is quickly becoming the new normal for Cheshire East schools and in schools across the UK.
"The disruption is something we are all having to adapt to. Our school is adapting very successfully to the challenges of the pandemic.
"We will continue to deliver the best possible educational experience we can during these unusual times and keep our children and staff safe and healthy through full adherence to our hygiene controls."
Several schools in Cheshire East have also been affected, including the Dingle Primary School in Haslington and Shavington Primary School.
