Crewe Lyceum Theatre's Christmas pantomime favourites, Malcolm Lord and Ste Johnston are "ready" to perform 2024 production Beauty and the Beast, launching on Friday 13 December.

Malcolm, back for his eighth year and Ste, set for his third successful show, are starring in Beauty and The Beast alongside The Chase's Jenny Ryan until Sunday 5 January.

The funny duo, who have lots of "love" for their Crewe audiences, return as the "bumbling" idiots once again, planning to get the audience rolling in the aisles.

Malcom Lord and Ste Johnston believe Crewe Lyceum Theatre is an 'incredible' venue (Ryan Parker).

Malcolm and Ste told Nub News: "We love Crewe Lyceum Theatre. If we didn't love the audience so much we wouldn't come back.

"Crewe audiences really come out for a good night out. They are so involved in it and part of the show, they are like having another cast member.

"They want to enjoy it, give so much support back and are ready for it from minute one unlike many other audiences.

"Crewe Lyceum is just incredible. It is amazing to just step out on stage, giving us that 'wow' moment every time.

"This panto is just magical. It comes at Christmas time, Beauty and the Beast is a lovely fairytale, there are lots of funny moments, there is something for everyone.

"We have a great cast this year, there is some really proper acting going on. The beast is about six-foot-seven too. He is massive.

"Despite all our messing around, there is a big responsibility to make sure we put on a good show for Crewe. They are trusting us and we have to make sure we give it back to them."

With a fifty-year career in theatre, 2024 marks Malcom's 40th panto anniversary.

Malcolm appeared in the classic children's programme Rainbow, for Thames TV, playing both George the pink hippo and Bungle Bear.

Ste is a panto, theatre and TV regular and recently appeared in the new Full Monty series on Disney +.

The pair, along with the entire cast, have just two weeks of rehearsals and tech prep before launching the Christmas show.

Malcom and Ste said: "Audiences know us now and expect stuff from us. We have that following and people keep coming back to see what antics we get up to each time.

"When you are working with the same person it makes it a lot easier to enjoy things. We know each other so well now and let each other get on with things.

"Rehearsals have gone really well, it is crazy how quick the panto comes together. We have one week of rehearsing then the second week is all about the technical side and then we are on stage.

"It is a fast and stressful two weeks. Once the shows are coming thick and fast you can relax a little more as you know you know the lines.

"We always get ourselves ready for it and are confident 2024's show will be our best panto yet.

"We are the idiots are always, bumbling, messing up, being a bit of a nuisance and falling in love with the girl we will never get.

"It is a really fun and lovely script this year. Expect some daft stuff from us while there are serious things going on around us.
