Shoppers in Crewe have expressed growing frustration and concern as Cheshire East Council's Victoria Centre Car Park (ASDA) has been left in complete darkness for several weeks.

The car park, which serves ASDA customers and visitors to Crewe town centre, has had its floodlights switched off for reasons yet to be clarified, leaving the area poorly illuminated and sparking complaints about safety.

Many local residents have described feeling unsafe while walking through the unlit car park, particularly during early mornings and evenings when natural light is scarce.

On social media, shoppers have reported stumbling over uneven surfaces and navigating in near-total darkness, raising fears of accidents or potential criminal activity (Nub News).

One concerned shopper, Jonathan White, who regularly visits ASDA, told Nub News: "It is completely pitch black in the evenings.

"I don't feel comfortable walking to my car, especially when it's so quiet. It is a hazard and a safety risk for everyone."

The lack of lighting has also raised alarms for those visiting Crewe's town centre shops, as the car park is a major entry point for foot traffic.

Several residents have called on the car park's management and local authorities to address the issue as a matter of urgency.

At present, the reason behind the floodlights being switched off remains unclear.

Shoppers and residents are calling for immediate action to resolve the issue before the busy holiday season, when footfall to the car park and surrounding areas is expected to increase significantly.

For now, residents are advised to exercise caution when using the car park and, where possible, consider alternative parking options until the lighting issue is resolved.
