A new sports bar with modern facilities and a "quality" street food menu has launched in Crewe, located in a town centre basement.

Cheer & Chug Sports Lounge, Victoria Centre, launched on Friday 18 April following a huge three-week project renovating the former Ye Olde Angel pub.

Run by two Crewe locals, Cheer & Chug offers six large TV screens (seventh incoming), interactive darts, supreme pool tables, shuffleboard tables, a VIP area and jukebox.

The venue's kitchen, 'Cheer and Chug Grub,' serves food for dine-in from 11.30am to 2pm and 5pm to 7pm (Monday to Thursday), 11.30am to 6pm (Friday and Saturday) and 11.30am to 4pm on Sundays.

Food served includes breakfasts, burgers, pizzas, chicken wings, belly pork bites, loaded fries, a sharing platter, Sunday roasts and Yorkshire pudding wraps.

Cheer & Chug told Nub News: "Crewe town centre is starting to see improvements now and it was crying out for a sports lounge like this.

"When visiting Manchester it is the sports bars that are most popular, which is why we have brought Cheer & Chug to Crewe.

"Around January time we came up with this idea and things progressed quickly. By the time we had everything agreed, we had just three weeks to complete a massive revamp in time for Easter.

"At Cheer & Chug, we have six screens, with a seventh in the pipeline. This includes two 75-inch screens, two 65-inch screens (with a third incoming), a 55-inch and a 44-inch screen.

"We can show three different sporting events at once across our screens. Any televised sporting events, including football, darts, snooker, golf, racing and more, we will show it.

"Cheer & Chug is different to the likes of The Arena and Disher's Pool Club, which are both fantastic facilities. We want to bring all ages together here, from teenagers to the elderly.

"This place has been opened by two passionate Crewe people who want to bring something different to the town."

Cheer & Chug has opened with support from the Open in Crewe scheme, offering capital grants of up to £30,000 for businesses taking on leases on vacant town premises.

Cheer and Chug said: "We saw the article on Crewe Nub News about the new escape rooms and entertainment venue opening in Lyceum Square with details on the grant.

"A representative came down to speak to us about it and things got moving from there. The scheme is helping to bring footfall back to Crewe town centre.

"Since opening, we have had a lot of enquiries for live music, which wasn't actually in the original plan.

"We would like to host the likes of acoustic, Motown and indie stuff once a month within the near future.

"We host two mens darts teams on a Monday night, a ladies darts team on a Tuesday, a pool team on a Sunday, with more teams approaching us to come here as well.

"We offer a wide variety of drinks, including lagers, ciders, IPAs and cocktails which have gone down well.

"We will be switching to a new cocktail supplier which we feel will be even better for our customers."

Cheer & Chug's chef, from Crewe, who rents out the kitchen, used to run Harvey's Sandwich Bar on Nantwich Road and wants to replicate that style of food for delivery on Uber Eats and/or Just Eat.

Cheer and Chug's VIP area. The venue is open 11am to 11pm, seven days a week and has a licence from 10am to 2am, which will be used for special events (Ryan Parker).

Cheer and Chug said: "The delivery side will launch this May, which will be great for the venue and for thr people of Crewe who used to love Harvey's.

"All our meat is from Crewe's Stuart Palin's Quality Butcher which is highly rated. We plan to host a burger night every Thursday.

"Our Sunday roasts are served from 11am to 1pm at a very reasonable price using quality ingredients.

"We have had a successful start, with a steady flow of customer enjoying the venue and ordering our quick and easy street food, along with the roasts.

"The entrance to the venue will soon be renovated with memorabilia and LEDs coming down the stairs.

Cheer and Chug aims to appeal to all age groups, from teenagers to the elderly (Ryan Parker).

"We also plan to have a beer garden at the front of the venue within the town. Come down and visit Crewe's only basement sports bar."
