The reopening of a major road in Crewe has been pushed back to the end of November, as part of a new walking and cycling route scheme.
Mill Street, between Brook Street and Oak Street Roundabout, has been closed since Monday 2 September.
It was expected to reopen again on Friday 15 November, with works initially estimated to take 10 and a half weeks.
Now, in a two-week delay, it is expected Mill Street will reopen again on Saturday 30 November.
Cheshire East Council is responsible for the closure, as part of The Southern Gateway Scheme.
The closure allows for changes to the footpath arrangements underneath Mill Street bridge.
Starting in June, The Southern Gateway Scheme aims to improve the route for pedestrians and cyclists, creating a new link from High Street to Crewe Lifestyle Centre.
The project aims to improve the link from Mill Street/Oak Street/Vernon Way to Forge Street.
Improvements will also be made to Oak Street Roundabout, with new signage installed around the area.
In August, Cheshire East Council installed a new cycle crossing on Vernon Way, with the project taking three weeks to complete.
This Mill Street closure is another step for the scheme, aimed to be fully completed by early 2025.
