RSPCA Crewe and Nantwich branch are trying to regime Augustus 'Gus' and Muffin.

A pair of rabbits who have found each other despite tragedy are after a new home.

Currently being fostered in Alsager, after not ideal previous owners, the two bunnies can be adopted from RSPCA Crewe.

Cheshire RSPCA Communications Co-ordinator Rachel White had to say about the duo:

"Augustus and Muffin, two very beautiful bunnies," she said.

"Augustus (Gus for short) looks a bit hare-like in shape but quite small like a Mini Rex.

"He was adopted and bonded back in 2018 but his partner has since died so he was bonded with Muffin from another branch so he was no longer bereaved, but the owners already had plans to move and do not want to continue with rabbit ownership, so they are looking for a new home.

"We are rehoming them directly from their current home.

"Prior to this Gus had a terrible life, along with 50 other rabbits, all with no food or water, living in filthy conditions.

"It is no wonder he was so frightened of everything way back when. Muffin was advertised on social media and the other branch stepped in because of the conditions she was kept in. They are neutered, microchipped and vaccinated.

"They need a young child and a dog-free home."

In the years since COVID, the RSPCA have seen an increase in abandoned rabbits or rabbits needing rehoming across the country.

RSPCA Crewe added: "Muffin and Gus are a devoted pair of medium-sized rabbits.

"They are rarely more than a few feet away from each other. Muffin is a gorgeous Mini Lop and is the more energetic of the two, with a great personality.

"Gus is a handsome, chocolate-coloured buck and a placid and contented guy. Both buns love to potter around the garden of their foster home, munching on the grass – and any unprotected plants.

"Currently, they run free in the garden all day. As they are both friendly and curious, they are easy to get into safe housing at night, as they'll come sprinting across the garden to you if you are offering their dinner, or treats.

"This makes the pair easy to look after and great garden companions."
