THE Rotary Clubs of Crewe and Crewe and Nantwich Weaver helped to bring some Christmas cheer to the businesses and residents of Nantwich Road with a visit from Father Christmas.

Santa's motorcade was laid on on Saturday (December 19) with the help of the Nantwich Road Action Group, an alliance of traders, businesses owners, residents as well as local councillors and public sector agencies, who formed recently to work on improving the environment along Crewe's busy thoroughfare.

The President of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver, Simon Yates, said: "We have been bringing people together who live or work in the area to create some community spirit and we wanted to pick people up at this difficult time over Christmas.

"What better then for Father Christmas to visit courtesy of the Rotary Club of Crewe."

Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland is a membership and humanitarian service organisation. Through membership of their local Rotary club, members use their time and talents to make a difference in their own communities and around the world.

Rotary is open to anyone over the age of 18 who wants to give back to their community, meet new people and have fun. Rotary Clubs in Crewe and Nantwich have been serving the community for over 80 years.

The Rotary Club of Crewe and Nantwich Weaver organised a Christmas party for pensioners for many years, but have had to adapt to the requirements of managing COVID-19 restrictions.

For the first time the club arranged for 50 Christmas hampers to be distributed to elderly people in a collaboration with Chance Changing Lives, who made the hampers, and Nantwich Churches Together.

Both organisations have identified the individuals to receive them.

Father Christmas visited Chance on Saturday to thank the volunteers who were preparing the hampers prior to them being distributed by Rotarians to the 35 recipients in Crewe and the 15 in Nantwich.

Each hamper contained both essentials and Christmas goodies together with a Rotary Living in Lockdown Calendar and a Christmas card from the Rotary Club and Chance Changing Lives.

Simon added: "The Rotary Club has supported Chance Changing Lives during this difficult time, and so who else would we go to to prepare the hampers for us.

"It was another great example of community organisations in Crewe and Nantwich coming together to support people in need."
