Dating back to the 1785 under its current name, The Rising Sun has long been a landmark off Crewe's Middlewich Road in Wistaston, with Nub News checking it out.

Following a six-figure refurbishment by Chef & Brewer, the historic pub, which first opened in 1749 (as The Cheshire Cheese), has a fresh new look while keeping the character making it popular for generations.

The investment has brightened the interior with stylish new décor, furniture and lighting. It feels modern without losing its cosy charm.

Whether you're after a family meal, a date night or a quiet drink, it ticks all the boxes.

The menu is another strong point, with something for everyone. Alongside the seasonal 'Festival of Seafood' menu, there's a wide range of pub classics.

Standout dishes include the 28-day aged 8oz sirloin steak, lamb duo, steak and ale pie, Hunter's chicken, lasagne, Korean chicken and the signature burger.

The seafood menu deserves a special mention. Available throughout August, it features moules frites, pan-fried sea bream (with caper butter sauce or prosciutto), seafood grill, smoked salmon and burrata, crab salad and baked prawn and smoky romesco black tiger prawns.

It's great to see seafood given such a prominent place on the menu. I opted for another item on the menu, the soft shell crab burger.

Served in a toasted brioche bun with lettuce, spicy aioli and skin-on fries, it was fresh, crisp and packed with flavour.

The soft shell crab had a satisfying crunch, while the spicy aioli added just enough heat, without overpowering the seafood.

It was lighter than a traditional burger but still filling.

Dessert was the star of the meal. The lemon cheesecake bomb is an easy recommendation.

The Rising Sun's menu describes it as a white chocolate lemon shell with smooth, tangy lemon cheesecake. The white chocolate just melts in your mouth with a sweet citrus aroma.

A generous layer of biscuit spread across the plate adds another texture, and when everything is mixed together, every spoonful is packed with flavour.

The creamy cheesecake, rich chocolate and crunchy biscuit combine brilliantly. It's a dessert that's worth visiting for alone.

If you don't fancy the cheesecake for dessert, The Rising Sun's seafood menu also offers a lemon posset, made up of cherry compote and shortbread.

Service was excellent throughout. Staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive, checking in regularly without being intrusive.

The Chef & Brewer pub is open 11am to 11pm (Monday to Thursday), 9.15am to 11pm (Friday and Saturday), and 9.15am to 10pm (Sunday).
