Asda commits to Crewe town centre site with renovation of rundown train wheels
Asda has confirmed its commitment to a Crewe town centre site, with the renovation of rundown locomotive wheels.
Work commenced at Victoria Shopping Centre, owned by Asda, on Friday 26 January, with workers placing scaffolding around the wheels.
The two steel train wheels, connected by an axle, have been in place in Crewe town centre for decades.
These wheels were installed in the new Victoria Shopping Centre to represent the importance of Crewe as a centre for making locomotives.
Workers told Nub News the locomotive wheels were being restored to their former glory, with the bricks around it set to be replaced.
They also confirmed Victoria Shopping Centre square will be tidied up further, following refurbishment works earlier this year.
These works come after Asda confirmed its commitment to the Crewe town centre site this week.
An Asda spokesperson told Nub News: "I can confirm there are no plans to sell this store.
"There are also no plans to sell Victoria Shopping Centre."
Asda has owned Victoria Shopping Centre since its store and the shopping area was built in 1978.
